Snowdon Sunrise - April 2022
There are many benefits of climbing Mountains for dawn, the spectacular morning light adds a unique quality to landscapes and can help put you in a positive mindset for the day ahead. It's however essential to plan your sunrise hike beforehand to ensure a successful outing.
To prepare for your hike, it's vital to plan your route ahead of time. Research the sunrise time and aim to arrive at your destination ten minutes before to maximize the views. Determine what time you need to wake up and how long the hike will take, considering the distance, terrain, and driving time. Select a hike that suits your skill level and leave your itinerary with someone you trust. If you're hiking with kids, consider choosing a shorter trail and giving yourself extra time.
It's essential to get everything ready the night before, so you're not rushing in the morning. Pack your gear, clothes, and food and make sure you have enough layers to keep you warm, especially if you're hiking in the dark or during the weak dawn light. Don't forget to bring a headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries and a flask of hot water, tea or coffee for a warm pick-me-up.
