Join our 1-Day Mountain Navigation Course in the stunning landscapes of Eryri (Snowdonia) and gain the skills you need to explore the mountains with confidence. Designed for beginners and those looking to refresh their knowledge, this hands-on course is the perfect starting point for anyone eager to develop their navigation skills.


What You’ll Learn: Our expert instructors will guide you through key techniques and strategies for staying safe in the mountains, including:

  • Understanding mountain weather forecasts and planning around changing conditions.

  • Learning about different types of maps and how to use them effectively.

  • Mastering Naismith’s Rule to estimate timings for your routes.

  • Using navigation apps as a helpful tool.

  • Practical skills like map reading, the "3Ds of navigation," relocating if you’re off track, and taking and following a compass bearing.


By the end of the day, you’ll feel confident planning and navigating routes in the mountains, regardless of the conditions. This course is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who want to explore independently or gain a solid foundation before progressing to more advanced mountain skills. HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE?

Not climbed a Mountain before? Don't worry, you don’t need to be an athlete to enjoy mountain climbing in the UK, but a reasonable level of fitness will certainly enhance your experience. Here are some key points to consider:


Basic Fitness: You should be comfortable walking for several hours at a steady pace. Regular walking or jogging can help build your stamina.

Strength and Endurance: Some strength in your legs and core will be beneficial, as mountain paths can be steep and uneven.

Cardiovascular Health: Good cardiovascular health is important. Activities like brisk walking or using a stair climber can improve this.

Flexibility and Balance: Flexibility and balance are also helpful. Stretching exercises and yoga can improve your flexibility and balance.

Mental Preparedness: Mental resilience is key. Being prepared for a challenge and having a positive mindset will help you enjoy the climb.
